FAQ

1. WHAT IS THE LOCAL? IS IT A FOOD BANK?

The Local is not a food bank, although, with the help of the Rotary Club of
Stratford, we do support the food banks in our community by providing them
with fresh produce to distribute to their patrons.
The Local is a ‘community food centre’ that encourages people to come together
to grow, share, cook, access and advocate for good food for everyone. We focus
on providing fresh, locally sourced, affordable healthy food for those that may be
experiencing barriers of access, such as insufficient income, transportation,
isolation, or limited cooking and gardening skills. We provide a variety of
programs and services that are free to anyone wishing to take part, that build a
community where access to good, wholesome food is considered a human right.
In addition to our skills programs, we offer a low cost access market, 3
community meals each week and advocacy services to help those that are
experiencing challenges find their voice.

2. SHOULD I GIVE TO THE LOCAL INSTEAD OF THE FOOD BANK?

NO. The food banks in our community provide a service that is needed. Think
of a food bank as the ‘emergency room’ and The Local as ‘the wellness centre’.
Both are needed to keep our community healthy. Our hope is that you will not
stop supporting one service to support the other, which is why the Neighbours
for Change might well fit within your means. $10 a month will go a long way for
us, as is indicated on the donor sheet.

3. HOW DO I BENEFIT BY GIVING MONTHLY, RATHER THAN A LARGER
AMOUNT DURING THE YEAR?

Once your monthly donation is set up, you don’t have to think of it again.
Everything is automatic, and for many donors, giving monthly alleviates the
stress of budgeting for a larger amount once a year.

4. CAN I CANCEL MY DONATION IF I CHOOSE TO?

Absolutely – you are not signing a contract. We recognize there are many
reasons a donor may wish to discontinue their support. We do ask that you let
us know if your support is being discontinued because of an issue with
something related to The Local so we can be sure to address it. To cancel your
donation you can send an email to debra@thelocalcfc.org.

5. WILL I GET A TAX RECEIPT?

Yes. We issue charitable tax receipts quarterly, so please make sure we have a
current address for you. If you prefer, we can arrange to send your receipt via
Email. If you choose to donate through our Canada Helps page, your receipt will
be issued directly through Canada Helps.

6. WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?

As an added thank you, the first 100 neighbours for change donors will be
highlighted on our new donor wall as a foundational support of The Local.
